# Setting up Simple Syllabus in D2L 

1. Log into your instructor account in D2L
2. In your course, click on the “Content” button

3. In content create a new Module and name it (Syllabus, Getting Started, etc.). Once you have named it, press Enter to save.

4. Open the newly created Module and click **Existing Activities**.

5. Click on **External Learning Tools**.

6. Click on **Simple Syllabus**.

## Editing and Publishing Your Syllabus  

1. Open Simple Syllabus in your course by clicking on the Simple Syllabus link you created.

2. Now you can begin to edit your syllabus!
  1. If you click on something and it has a box around it, that will autofill.
  2. If you click and you can type, it will not autofill, and you will need to complete the information.

c. Some text boxes are optional. If the toggle button is black, that means you can set permissions. If you grey out the "Visible” setting, students will not be able to see the component. The Public/Private setting controls who sees the information. For instance, if you set a box to private, only students in the course will be able to see the box, but it will not appear in the public syllabus library.

d. Boxes highlighted in orange are required and your syllabus cannot be submitted until those boxes are completed. The orange box will be removed once the component is completed.

e. You cannot reorder the syllabus, but you can add components, which will appear at the bottom of your syllabus.

3. Once you are finished, you will publish your syllabus. You will use the access button on the left and choose how you would like to publish (please check with your department chair or dean to see if there are publication preferences at your college).

![General Public Allow everyone to view this syllabus. Campus Community Only allow users to view this syllabus if they are logged in. Private Access Only allow users to view this syllabus if they are assigned to a role that gives them access, or if they can edit or approve this syllabus.](media://9d3e4ee5-18a2-4ca7-ba9d-5d0da009b992)

4. To publish your syllabus, click on the “Submit” button. Your syllabus will be published once you see the confetti. If you close without the confetti, it will not publish.
