Note: as of August 2026, zyBooks deep linking is now available in MyCourses. If you would like to use this method of adding links, please reference [this guide](https://help.cccs.edu/space/KnowledgeBase/2479456282/Adding+zyBooks+Assignment+Deep+Links+to+Your+Course).

## Verify that desired assignments are not hidden

1. If hidden, click on section or assignment title.
2. In new window, click the **Visible to students** toggle.
3. Repeat for any hidden assignments or sections for which you want to grant your students access.

## Configure the book as needed for your class

1. From the Table of Contents/Welcome tab, select **Configure zyBook** at the top of the page.
2. In the Configuration screen, click the box next to an item from the Table of Contents to select it. Click the downward pointing arrow to expand any given section) and use the configuration options on the right side of the page to adjust the book content to your class needs.
  1. **Set sections to optional: **If there are sections that you wish to leave in student view, but review of those sections is not required, you may set them to optional.
  2. **Move selected sections to: **If you wish to have your students engage with the material in an order that is different than the published book, you may move sections as you wish either by using the Move selected sections option on the right or by dragging the six-dot icon on the left of the section title to the desired location. Note that numbering adjusts as you move items. If you need to reset your section movements, you can do so by restoring the default ordering.

## Create assignments

While it would be possible to allow students to just access assignments within the zyBooks platform and manually transfer grades, creating assignments and linking those to your D2L course shell will create an automatic grade sync.

1. From the Table of Contents/Welcome page, click the **Assignments tab** (lower right side of the page).
2. On that tab, click the **+ Add** link.
3. In the Create an assignment area that is displayed on the right:
  1. Enter an assignment name (this can be copied and pasted from the item on the left if desired).
  2. Select at least one item from the left side of the screen (or as many as should be included in this assignment).
  3. In general, due dates will apply to your entire class. If a student receives an extension, their information can also be entered here.
  4. Enter the due date.
  5. Save.

## Create links in D2L course

For every item that you’d like to have a direct link to in your D2L course, do the steps shown below:

1. Navigate to the module where you would like the link.
2. Links can be moved after creation if you find it simpler to create all links in one module then move them.
3. Click on **Existing Activities** and select **External Learning Tools.**
4. Scroll to the bottom of the screen and click the gray **Create New LTI Link** button.
5. Enter the title you would like to see in Content.
6. In the LTI URL text box, enter **https://lti1-3.zybooks.com/v1/lti1p3/provider**. You will link this to a specific item in a later stage of this process.
7. Click the blue **Create and Insert** button.
8. Repeat this step for every link desired.
9. Click Bulk Edit at the top of the screen.
10. On all links created, click the **Open as External Resource** checkbox.
11. Click the blue **Done Editing** button when you are finished.

## Connect D2L to items in zyBooks

- After all links are set to open in new windows, click on an external learning tool link you wish to connect to your gradebook.
- You will land at the top level of the zyBooks interface. Select the book used for this course.
- Click the blue **Create or Link to Assignment** button.
- Scroll through the list to find the assignment you wish to connect to your course and click the word **Link **in blue.
- Repeat for all graded items from zyBooks.
- Grade items will be automatically created when students complete their assignments.
